KEEPING FIT DURING WINTER THE EASY WAY

Winter's is here and the only thing on your mind is "cold, food, cold, food" To tell you the truth most people eat more during winter than any other season! You have now discovered where those extra kg's have come from, hmmmm. Well here are some simple, at home and outdoor exercises to do.... when you are not eating:-)

1. Your mum is nagging your butt off to clean your room or to do your daily chores. Don't fuss over it, tackle it as an opportunity to get some exercise. Put on your favourite cd or play some songs from your ipod or phone that will make you start hopping and jumping.

2. Call a few girlfriends over and take a walk to the mall, window shopping can also shed some kilos. (Who said shopping is useless?) Now you have a reason to do more shopping! Or just walk for fun (make sure it's a walk in a safe, public place), by doing this you will get exercise and catch up on all the hot gossip.

3. The weekend's here and either your cousins or friends are coming over or you are just plain bored. Now is the ideal time to relive your childhood fun and games! Gather your brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, mum, dad, even pets and get them playing hide and seek, tag, soccer, cricket, swing ball, twister, you name it and you can play it! This will also warm you up.

4. Those of you who have bicycles, scooters, roller blades /skates (yep, even the ones with four wheels) drag them out of the garage and make use of them. You could even get friends involved and go out every afternoon or on weekends. Walk or ride your bike for at least 30 minutes, to school or the mall. Not only will this warm you up and shed those kilos, it's much kinder to the planet than getting your dad to drive you to wherever you want to go.

5. Call your friends over or set up an exercise date at their place. You and your friends can do Pilates or dance inspired workouts. It's a great way to target muscles you don't use in your everyday activities. It is also very good for your posture. It's fun to do with anyone in the comfort of your own warm, home!

6. Take up a new sport such as karate or martial arts. It'll whip you into shape, keep you warm, create an opportunity to make some new friends and sharpen up your defence skills.

7. For snowy areas you could build a snowman, have snowball fights with friends and family, go ice skating with that special someone or a friend or even grab a shovel and start shovelling that snow off the drive way or front porch! You could even do it for your neighbours!Shed some weight and earn some money!

8. If you can afford it, you could join a local aerobics class or take up a yoga class. If you are shy, join a class with a friend, that way you will exercise and have fun at the same time!

9.This my favourite, jiving in the shower hehe. It may sound crazy but it really works, think of a favourite song and while you scrubbing or shampooing (or even waiting for your conditioning to set in) dance up a storm in the shower. Then you can really dance like no-one is watching!! (besure that you are standing on a non-slip mat) Besides, it's better than a swim in a freezing cold pool, trust me.
